Nelson through strange eyes
Herein lie strange views of Nelson. The strangeness of many of the pictures comes from a mapping—the way a full–sphere image is represented on a plane. As locals who know the scenes will recognize, the pictures show every direction simultaneously, but presenting this on a flat surface results in distortions, just as do mappings of the Earth. However, these distortions can be used creatively. The About section of this site offers a discussion of how such full–sphere pictures are created.
Some of these images are also delivered as navigable views (to navigate, follow directions in the captions).
There are also some other full–sphere panoramas at Nelson’s Sacred Spaces, and there are some conventional Panoramas of Nelson and the Lake.
Gyro Overlook One of the grandest views of Nelson is surely to be found from the overlook at Gyro Park. It presents a view of a large portion of the town.

Gyro Footbridge Gyro Park presents many inviting scenes for this type of photography. The color (almost a CPR red) of this little footbridge over a ravine blends beautifully with the fall foliage.
Courthouse Although the Courthouse dominates this scene, everything else possible to see from this spot on the sidewalk also appears in the picture.
Vernon Street This view is from the island in the middle of Vernon St. between the Courthouse and the Heritage Inn.
